Been a rough ride but we're pulling through nicely on this project. We're not going to release the final details of the build, that is the property and knowledge of the builder, D1 SOHC as well as some in house trickery Toyama Racing Spirit helped with on the intake side.

Things are looking good and the motor has already put down over 400km's - we've managed to complete a smooth road tune and will need one more session to finish up on it.

High compression (We're sitting around +-11.0 - 11.5 effective, 12+ static) and the SOHC configuration as it stands have proven difficult to work with in terms of knock - the motor really is knock limited. We've pulled a lot of timing an made sure there's nothing - more testing during the day to be 100%. Ambient air temperature during the day affects this issue big time.

We're running the Gotech MFI Standard for now but possibly looking to move D1 SOHC over to one of the Toyama Racing Spirit Spec II ECU's located here.

All in all she's a fun little car, smooth power climb and easy to drive in traffic. Cold starts and hot starts are 100% and she idles very well, no troubles there.

We're going to hold off a bit longer before searching for more power - the motor needs another oil change and some more daily driving to report any drive-ability issues that may crop up during hot weather.

The vehicle is to see further transformation on the styling side as well as performance, watch this space for updates.

Here's to yet another good Toyama Racing Spirit tuned vehicle. Enjoy the ride Jacky!

We're done on the Project Phoenix Stage I setup, great amount of time and effort went into both the build and tuning work. The owner took vehicle to the strip 12th March 2010, Tarlton Raceway South Africa, around 6000ft up from sea level.

Phoenix managed a personal best of 16.86s down the quarter with an exit speed of 131 kph. Not too bad considering the vehicles TP100 decided to give some trouble causing ignition issues over 6000 rpm. We reckon this project is capable of lower times, perhaps <16.5 with the correct launch, reaction time and no more ignition troubles. The project has seen zero dyno time - so we'll have to calculate an approximate HP/Kw figure at the wheels based on the vehicles mass (around 1100 fully loaded) and the figures above. We estimate phoenix to be putting down around 76kw (103hp) at the wheels - not bad for the first time out. Previous bests on the older setup were 18s passes - definite improvement there.

On the track side of things, in previous trim, a personal best of 1m25.77s around the Zwartkops Raceway track at one of the national SuperTrax events - we can't wait to put it back on and see how well she performs.
